The Criterion Collection announced earlier this year their plans to come out with their first-ever 4K Ultra HD titles, and the six-film slate, which includes Orson Welles’ seminal “Citizen Kane,” is finally available to pre-order on Amazon.

We’re thrilled to announce that CITIZEN KANE will lead Criterion’s first slate of 4K Ultra HD releases along with MENACE II SOCIETY, THE PIANO, MULHOLLAND DR., THE RED SHOES, and A HARD DAY’S NIGHT! https://t.co/VHrbHhnwjz pic.twitter.com/I9qamqnDgu

The 1941 film was the Criterion Collection’s first laser-disc offering 37 years ago, making its return after a long absence particularly commemorative. It’s released alongside five other breakthrough movies: Allen and Albert Hughe’s directorial debut “Menace II Society,” Jane Campion’s Academy Award-winning “The Piano,” David Lynch’s love letter to Los Angeles, “Mulholland Dr.,” Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s classic romance drama “The Red Shoes” and Richard Lester’s “A Hard Day’s Night,” the beloved movie musical that brought The Beatles to the big screen during the height of their fame in 1964.

Each title will release as part of a combo pack that comes with a 4K UHD disc of the film and a Blu-ray of the film, in addition to special features. The initial six releases are just the first of many the Criterion Collection plans to roll out, with more offerings to come in the next few months.

Below, check out the new additions, plus some of the best Criterion DVDs (and popular 4K editions) to add to your collection.

Considered the first-ever modern movie, “Citizen Kane” tells the story of the meteoric rise and climactic fall of the newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane. But it’s Orson Welles’ stylistic innovations that made it an instant classic, such as his jigsaw-puzzle narrative structure and stunning deep-focus camera work. The new 4k digital restoration features three new audio commentaries from scholars and critics, new interviews and audio essays, archival interviews with Welles and much more.

Directors Albert and Allen Hughes and screenwriter Tyger Williams sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community with their 1993 film, which follows 18 year-old Cain Lawson tries to find his way out of the gang lifestyle he was born into in the Los Angeles projects. Starring Samuel Jackson as his drug-dealing father and Larenz Tate as his loose-canon best friend, the film is a searingly realistic tale on adversity. The 4-disc restoration comes with two audio commentaries from the directors and “Gangsta Vision,” a 2009 featurette on the making of the film.
