Chrystia Freeland resigns in scathing letter to Justin Trudeau: How Canadian leaders reacted

Chrystia Freeland resigned her post as finance minister today, sending shockwaves across Ottawa and the Canadian political world. Freeland posted a letter addressed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on social media.

Freeland quit Cabinet hours before she was supposed to unveil the fall economic statement. Radio-Canada first reported that Dominic LeBlanc, who currently serves as public safety minister, will replace Freeland in her post.
In her letter, Freeland wrote: "Our country today faces a great challenge. The incoming administration in the United States is pursuing a policy aggressive economic nationalism, including a threat of 25 per cent tariffs," referring to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's plans.
"We need to take that threat extremely seriously."
Karina Gould, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, tabled the Liberal government’s fall economic statement in Parliament instead of Freeland.
Freeland says she plans to run again for her seat in Toronto in the next federal election, which must be held by October 2025.
Here's how other world leaders, including Trudeau, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre reacted to the news.
