Fast-growing wildfires throughout L.A., exacerbated by severe winds and dry vegetation, started on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and soon sent tens of thousands of residents scrambling for safety from the encroaching flames and smoke.

The fires have spread quickly in different parts of the city, including the Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and the Hollywood Hills. Information is still evolving about the scale of the destruction and when the blazes will start to be contained.

As of Thursday, there have been at least 10 fire-related deaths in the Los Angeles area, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said.

Per CNN, authorities have "received notification" for these deaths. The medical examiner did not release the names of those who have died since "all cases are pending identification and legal next of kin notification."
