Chris Hemsworth has been recognised for his service to the arts and his commitment to charitable organisations in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The Thor actor was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), and was one of 1,190 Australians recognised in the list.

Hemsworth, 37, has worked with charities since 2009 when he became a patron of the Australian Childhood Foundation.

Hemsworth has been busy in recent months filming another picture for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love And Thunder.

He revealed earlier in June that shooting on the superhero film, which had been taking place in his home country, had wrapped.

Thor: Love And Thunder is set for release in May next year as part of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Other stars named in the honours list include Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, actor Jonathan Pryce and singer Lulu.

The list also recognised key figures from the UK's COVID vaccine programme, including Oxford vaccine developer Prof Sarah Gilbert and the former chair of the UK vaccine taskforce Kate Bingham.
