Chilean Police Detain Keepers After Thousands of Bees Released in Protest

Police in Santiago, Chile, said they made four arrests on January 3 after a group of beekeepers released thousands of bees outside the city’s presidential palace.

According to local reports, the beekeepers were demanding reforms to boost prices, and state aid. They also said bee populations were suffering because of drought, according to Biobio Chile.

Several police officers were stung, a police commander told reporters.
