Chilean constitutional convention elects new president

With 78 votes, the 39-year-old will replace Elisa Loncon, who presided over the convention since it was created on July of 2020.

Quinteros, who studied dentistry and has a doctorate in public health, is part of the activist groups which pushed for a new constitution after social unrest shook the Latin American nation in 2019.

The constitutional convention needs to come up with the new set of laws in nine months, a period ending in April that also allows for a three-month extension.
