  • President Donald Trump spoke at a Philadelphia town hall on Tuesday night, in which he said coronavirus would eventually go away since immunity would be "herd-developed."

  • Cher slammed the president for his comments, saying on Twitter that his rhetoric is dangerous, and urged her followers to vote him out of office.

  • White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany later said that Trump was not endorsing herd immunity.

Cher is over listening to Trump.

After the president spoke at a Philadelphia town hall hosted by ABC on Tuesday night, the iconic singer slammed the president for his comments on people developing herd immunity for COVID-19. Herd immunity is said to make the spread of a disease less likely once a large portion of a population becomes immune. It can be achieved through a vaccine or natural infection. However, researchers don't suggest relying on herd immunity to battle this pandemic because it is currently unclear if COVID-19 infection creates immunity and, if it did, it would take a large portion of the U.S. population (approximately 200 million people) to be infected and to recover.

"Sure, with time, it goes away," Trump said, per The Huffington Post. "And you'll develop–you'll develop herd—like a herd mentality. It's going to be—it's going to be herd-developed, and that's going to happen. That will all happen. But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly."

Cher was quick to fire back, writing in a series of tweets, "Seems 2 Hundred Thousand Dead Isn't Enough Carnage, Misery,💔4 Trump. We MUST BE AWARE When He Starts This Insane Treatment. We Must Protect Ourselves & Those Who Will Surely⚰."

She later added, "Trump Want 2 Use'HERD IMMUNITY'As Treatment 4 Covid. This Means No One Tries 2 Protect Themselves In'ANY WAY'.EVERYTHING OPENS LIKE B4 COVID. Likely # Of🇺🇸'ns DEAD=6.4 MILLION.ROSY PICTURE 2.5.Must Wear Masks,Social Distance,Even Gloves If He Tries 'Herd Immunity' MUST VOTE & LIVE🙏."

After the town hall, the White House pushed back on the widespread criticism. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said, per PBS, "Herd immunity has never been a strategy here at the White House," and that Trump "was noting herd immunity [develops] over a period of time."
