Kedah Umno wings urge Mukhriz to keep mum on Najib – Bernama

The by-election for Chempaka state seat is expected to be among the topics of the Umno supreme council meeting which will be chaired by party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tonight in Kuala Lumpur.

The meeting, scheduled to start at 8.30 pm, is believed to also decide on whether Barisan Nasional (BN) will field a candidate to contest in the by-election on March 22 with the nomination day set for March 10.

The Chempaka state seat fell vacant following the demise of its incumbent Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat of prostate cancer on February 12.

In the 13th general election, the former menteri besar of Kelantan and PAS spiritual leader won the seat by defeating Wan Razman Wan Abd Razak of BN with a 6,500 vote majority.

Kelantan BN chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and several BN leaders said BN should not contest the Chempaka by-election and should instead concentrate on post-flood rehabilitation efforts in the state. – Bernama, February 25, 2015.
