Chelsea told that it’s the ‘perfect timing’ to sack Potter with ‘extremely easy’ job for successor
Chelsea should “sack” Graham Potter now as it would be “extremely easy” for any manager replacing him, according to former Manchester United defender Paul Parker.
The Blues won their first Premier League encounter for six matches against Leeds United on Saturday with Potter finally easing some of the pressure on his shoulders.
Before their match against Leeds it had been just one win in 11 games in all competitions with Chelsea booed off in their previous home game against Southampton.
Potter will now face one of the biggest tests of his tenure on Tuesday night when Chelsea host Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash looking to turn around a 1-0 first leg defeat.
If the Blues crash out of the Champions League then fresh questions are bound to be asked but Parker reckons now is the right time to “sack” Potter.
Parker told Bettors: “First of all, I have to say that it would be extremely easy for any manager to take over Chelsea now and start from scratch. Because no matter what happens, he will get the rest of this season and a summer transfer window with no pressure on his shoulders.
“So, honestly, it would be the perfect timing to sack Graham Potter. A new manager would have nothing to lose and that is a good thing.”
Potter made the decision to leave Brighton -who are currently above them in the Premier League – and replace Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea in September.
Parker added: “But I must say that it wouldn’t make any sense at all to sack him. I would like them to stick with Graham Potter because I have seen what he was able to achieve with Brighton and he might even regret ever going to Chelsea.
“Graham Potter has the chance to make himself the best English manager ever but I feel sorry for him. I was one of those people who advocated for him not to go to Chelsea but I can understand why he couldn’t turn down a big job like Chelsea.”
If they do sack Potter then Parker reckons Chelsea should go for former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Parker continued: “I have seen Pochettino being mentioned as a Chelsea-target if they were going to sack Potter and that makes absolutely no sense. He would not be a good fit for Chelsea.”
