Chelsea target €50m ‘Osimhen alternative’ as Serie A side ‘could lower buyback clause’
Chelsea are in desperate need of a new striker in the summer as Graham Potter seeks a consistent source of goals, and should top target Victor Osimhen be out of reach, they could re-sign Tammy Abraham.
The Chelsea academy product was sold to Roma in the summer of 2021 for €40m, but an €80m buyback option was inserted in his contract.
That clause is set to be activated this summer, but could be lowered, according to Il Messaggero (via Sport Witness).
It’s thought Chelsea’s top target is Napoli’s Osimhen, but an outlay of more than €100m would likely be required to even enter negotiations with the Serie A side over a move for the Nigeria international.
And they would face stiff competition, with Paris Saint-Germain keen and Manchester United thought to be leading the Premier League charge.
Abraham is ‘seen as an alternative to Victor Osimhen’ by Todd Boehly and Clearlake, and Roma technical director Tiago Pinto could ‘lower the buyback clause’ in Abraham’s contract from €80m to €50m to facilitate the transfer.
That would ‘guarantee a capital gain’ for Roma as they look to balance their books.

Reports have suggested Abraham would be open to a return to Chelsea, for whom he scored 30 goals in 82 appearances, and admitted last year that he may return to the Premier League to “make noise” in the future.
Abraham told talkSPORT: “It’s all over the place at the moment. Who knows what the future holds.
“Of course I grew up in England and I’m a London boy so maybe one day I will be back in the Premier League to make noise there.
“But, for me right now, it’s about focusing in Rome. It’s about focusing on doing the best I can and hopefully I can win these guys a trophy, which they haven’t won in many years.”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is also thought to be an admirer of Abraham, and given they reportedly need to sell to buy this summer, may also deem the 25-year-old as a smart alternative to Osimhen.
