Chelsea will reportedly look to sell defender Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window amid interest from Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
Mauricio Pochettino has opted to go for a centre-back partnership of Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi so far this season, with Chalobah failing to make an appearance so far.
The 25-year-old finds himself behind Silva, Disasi and Levi Colwill in the pecking order and he is open to a move elsewhere in favour of more playing time.
As reported by Football365, Bayern Munich wanted to sign Chalobah on loan this summer. Tottenham also registered an interest in the defender after he snubbed a deadline day move to Nottingham Forest.
Chalobah broke into the Chelsea first team in 2021. He has made 63 appearances for the London club, scoring four goals in the process.
Pochettino clearly isn’t convinced by Chalobah, however, and is keen to move him on in January to help ease Financial Fair Play concerns.
That is according to football.london, who claim that Chelsea ‘are still looking to sell Chalobah in January.’ They value him at approximately £50m.
The report notes that the defender is ‘facing exile’ from the squad, and has been told by the club’s hierarchy that he may never play for the Blues again.
Chalobah is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and has reportedly asked whether he can play for the under-23s once he returns, in order to keep up his fitness.
As mentioned, he was keen to leave the London club all summer and that desire has only intensified after Chelsea signed Disasi this summer.
With Wesley Fofana suffering a serious ACL injury that is expected to keep him out for the majority of the season, there was a chance that Chalobah could be the Frenchman’s replacement.
That does not seem to be the case, however, and it’s fair to say that Disasi has already put in some good performances this season.
With that in mind, a move away from Stamford Bridge could be the best thing for Chalobah’s career.
Whether or not Tottenham or Bayern Munich will make an offer for him when the transfer window re-opens remains to be seen.
