Chelsea set to appoint new boss ‘by the end of this week’, with all signs pointing to Pochettino
Chelsea are reportedly set to appoint their new manager ‘by the end of this week’, with Mauricio Pochettino having undergone ‘final negotiations’.
The Blues have so far seen the back of two managers this season. Thomas Tuchel – who guided them to a Champions League triumph in 2021 – made it to just September before being sacked.
His successor, Graham Potter, was in charge for six months, before he was given the boot in April. Form had been underwhelming for a while under the last manager.
It’s not gotten much better since caretaker Frank Lampard took charge. The Blues lost six games in all competitions at the start of his second term, before beating Bournemouth in their last game.
At the moment, the Stamford Bridge outfit are 11th in the Premier League, playing for pride at this point.
Next season, they’ll hope for a much better campaign. Given the tools at their disposal – £500million worth of talent has walked through the door in the last year – the right manager could shape them into a great team.
Football Insider reports that new manager will have put pen to paper by next week. Indeed, that report states Chelsea ‘will confirm their new manager by the end of this week’.
They add former Tottenham boss Pochettino is ‘expected to land the role’. It’s suggested talks between the club and the manager ‘entered the final stages last week’.
What’s more, ‘final negotiations’ are ongoing ‘over his backroom staff’ along with some other details.
While the process has been somewhat long, and Chelsea have spoken to a few candidates, they were ‘keen to hire the correct man’, with the poor season cited as the reason for that.
Football Insider states Lampard will remain in charge through the end of the season. However, with the new boss being installed soon, they’ll be able to see up close what they want to change and how they want things to look.
Getting the next manager in place now gives him a chance to plan for next season, with the end of the term and pre-season giving ample time for that to happen, so that Chelsea’s season could be a more successful one than this one has been.
The new boss will surely be given ample resources to make that a possibility.
