Chelsea are aiming to open discussions with Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino over the vacant managerial position, according to David Ornstein.
The German’s sacking comes after the club’s defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel,” read a Blues statement.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.
“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
Chelsea are currently sixth in the Premier League with three wins from their opening six domestic fixtures, with a trip to Fulham up next.
Tuchel’s sacking can be seen as harsh after he brought the Champions League back to Stamford Bridge in 2021.
However, the Blues ended last season poorly and have started this term slowly.
It is also believed that Tuchel’s relationship with the new ownership was not very healthy, despite Todd Boehly’s short time in west London.
Three names have been heavily linked with the Stamford Bridge job since news of Tuchel’s dismissal broke.
Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is believed to be admired by Boehly and co, though he is apparently holding out for the France job.
That leaves Brighton head coach Potter and former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham boss Pochettino.
According to The Athletic correspondent David Ornstein, ‘Chelsea intend to talk to both’ managers.
The Blues are looking to get a new manager through the door in time for their match against London rivals Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
The report claims that Chelsea will ask Brighton for permission to speak to Potter, while some reports claim they have already been granted permission by their Premier League rivals.
Albion are not expected to stand in Potter’s way, such is the ‘policy’ of the south coast club.
Unlike Potter, Pochettino is currently available having left PSG before the start of 2022/23.
The 50-year-old previously managed Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham and helped guide the club to the Champions League final in 2019.
Pochettino is ‘open’ to replacing Tuchel, Ornstein claims.
The Argentine did the exact same thing with PSG, taking over in the French capital following Tuchel’s sacking in January 2021.
From Ornstein to the other god of all things football news, Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist says Potter is Chelsea’s ‘priority’.
It is added that Pochettino is alongside Potter on the club’s ‘four-names list’ to replace Tuchel.
Chelsea and Brighton are currently in contact, with Todd Boehly working hard to find a new head coach.
Pochettino would not cost anything to bring in, while it is believed that Potter has a release clause.
The exact figure is unclear, with some reports stating it is around £10million, while others claim it is closer to £16m.
Having spent over £250m in the summer transfer window, what is another £10m-16m to Chelsea’s new owners? Absolute peanuts, really.
