Chelsea fans slam Potter ‘madness’ as Tottenham cruise to 2-0 victory; time is running out for the Blues’ boss
Tottenham Hotspur picked up a valuable three points in their race for the top four with a convincing 2-0 victory over London rivals Chelsea today, leaving them four points clear of Newcastle.
This has piled even more pressure on Blues boss Graham Potter, though, with his side currently without a win in their last six matches across all competitions.
Oliver Skipp opened the scoring for Spurs at the beginning of the second half, with a powerful strike from the edge of the Chelsea penalty area. This was his first goal for the club, and what a time to score it.
Harry Kane then sealed the victory with a poacher’s finish at the back post in the 82nd minute, after Eric Dier flicked on a well-delivered corner by Heung-min Son.
There has been speculation that another defeat for Chelsea would be the final nail in the coffin for Potter, so it will be interesting to see if Todd Boehly relieves him of his duties this evening.
On that, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking to BBC Five Live, said: “It was always going to be difficult for Graham Potter to take charge at Chelsea and progress the club in the way that he wants to.
“He has a completely different managerial style. You could see in the first half that something is there, but they aren’t getting results and aren’t good enough going forward.”

However, Robinson also praised Tottenham’s performance, who largely dominated the second half and deservedly picked up a victory over their rivals, Chelsea.
“Tottenham have been excellent today. Fraser Forster hasn’t had much to do, he came off his line to collect it at the feet of Havertz, but Chelsea haven’t had enough shots at goal,” Robinson added.
“We don’t know which Tottenham will turn up from one week to the next, but it was the one we saw beat Manchester City that showed up today.
“They had a game plan, sat deep and allowed Chelsea to have possession, especially in the first half. They were defensively excellent and then hurt Chelsea on the counter.”
Indeed, it was a fantastic performance from Spurs as they cement their spot in fourth in the Premier League table, with fifth-place Newcastle four points behind them, with two games in hand.
Chelsea, though, are now in a disappointing tenth spot in the league table and have almost no chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season, so it seems unlikely Potter will be around for much longer.
Via BBC Sport, one Blues supporter, Lloyd Anderson, said the blame does not lie solely with the English manager: “Boehly is equally as culpable for this pathetic situation, but the only thing that can change is the manager.
“Sorry, Potter, you’ve tried, but it’s madness to keep doing the same thing and expecting things to improve.”
