According to reports, Chelsea have been dealt a fresh blow as Leicester City ‘will not entertain a bid’ for their defender Wesley Fofana.
The Blues are keen to sign a couple more centre-backs before the summer transfer window closes. This comes after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen departed to join Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively.
Chelsea have already brought in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, as well as Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are not done there as they have targeted Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. But they have lost out to Barcelona, who somehow keep plucking out money from out of nowhere.
In recent days, Chelsea have been linked with Leicester’s Fofana. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Foxes want at least £70m for their star defender.
In a contrasting report, The Evening Standard are suggesting that Leicester ‘will not entertain a bid’ for Fofana this summer.
The Foxes are ‘standing firm’ with Fofana being Chelsea’s ‘latest transfer target in defence’.
They look set ‘to fail’ in their pursuit of the defender though. It is understood that the player ‘will not push for a move’.
Speaking back in May, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers suggested that there is going to be a “healthy shake-up” at the club this summer.
Two months later, Leicester are yet to sign anyone ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Along with Foffana, Harvey Barnes is being linked with a move elsewhere.
According to The Sun, Newcastle are ‘targeting’ the Englishman, with Leicester demanding £50m for his services.
Rodgers was full of praise for Barnes last year, as he backed the midfielder to become a “really top player”:
“I believe he’s going to become a really, really top player in the next few years,” Rodgers said (via Chronicle Live).
“When I came in you could see the talent but he needed to score more goals and week by week he started to do that. I think the only thing that will stop him will be availability. If he can stay injury-free, and get that little bit of luck, you can just see his game coming together.
“He’s got that hunger and is gaining confidence all the time. What’s great about Harvey is he’s a very humble boy, he doesn’t get carried away with it. He comes in with a wonderful attitude.”
