KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 — Celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail — better known as Chef Wan — revealed in an Instagram post that his mother, Noraini Abdullah, passed away this morning at 93 years of age.

Noraini, fondly known as “Cik Ani” breathed her last at 6.20am in her sleep at Gleneagles Hospital, Ampang.

Her body will be buried at Putra Mosque, Putrajaya this afternoon after prayers.

According to mStar, the chef’s mother was admitted to Gleneagles Hospital 10 days ago when her health worsened after fighting cancer and other illnesses including Alzheimer's and dementia.

The 64-year-old chef, who shared a close bond with his mother, regularly shared updates of her declining health on his Instagram in the days leading up to her death.

“Waiting for your loved one's soul to slip away, it's the most painful feeling,” he wrote in one of the posts.

“As days go by, it's even more difficult seeing my mum becoming so frail until all that's left are skin and bones. I see this a lot in cancer patients towards the end.”

According to a post yesterday, the chef and his family had prepared themselves for his mother’s passing, wanting to give her full medical attention “right to the end”.

He also thanked those who sent their regards and visited his mother when she was undergoing treatment.

“Thank you so much for all your kind wishes and doa (prayers) for my mother. Alhamdulilah.” he wrote.
