Hiddenite Buildings Submerged in Raging Floodwaters After Historic Rainfall

Historic rainfall caused roadways in North Carolina to flood on Thursday morning, November 12, stranding vehicles and making some streets completely “impassable,” local reports said.

This footage, shared by local meteorologist Chris Mulcahy, shows buildings and vehicles submerged in Hiddenite after the South Yadkin River breached its banks on Thursday.

More than four inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours, local media reported.

The Charlotte Fire Department said on Twitter that 143 people had been rescued and that the flooding had forced the evacuation of a charter school. Five people were missing from the Hiddenite Family Campground, according to local reports.

Charlotte officials sent an alert warning residents of the “dangerous and life-threatening” flooding and discouraged any attempt at travel in the affected areas. Credit: Chris Mulcahy via Storyful
