Charges Pending After 16-Vehicle Pileup in Virginia Tunnel

Sixteen vehicles were involved in a pileup in the Downtown Tunnel in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 28, after a speeding vehicle’s bumper detached causing a chain-reaction crash, WTKR reported citing Virginia State Police.

Police told the local news outlet that the crash happened shortly before 1 am when a loose bumper forced following drivers on eastbound lanes of I-264 to slam on their brakes.

Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to WTKR.
