‘Chances are’ £106million Man Utd target will ‘go away’, as side draws up four-man replacement list
Journalist Paolo Bargiggia has reported that the “chances are” Manchester United target Victor Osimhen will “go away,” and Napoli have compiled a four-man shortlist to replace him.
United’s attack is in good nick despite the limited options to them through the centre. Indeed, Marcus Rashford – who usually plays on the left – and Anthony Martial were the only senior central options ahead of the January window.
They were left thin after Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive antics led to his contract being mutually cancelled.
In January, they made the strange decision to loan in a Championship forward in Wout Weghorst. What’s more, the Burnley man has been playing behind the striker for the last few games.
The loan signing seemed to be a stopgap until the summer and that looks all the more true now.
Napoli forward Osimhen has emerged as United’s main target for the summer. Indeed, a recent report suggested they ‘will bid’ for him, though Liverpool are also in pursuit.
And Italian journalist Bargiggia has provided an update on the future of the Nigerian striker that puts United ahead of their Premier League rivals.
“For Osimhen, at the moment, there are two concrete options: PSG and Manchester United. For now, they are the two clubs most interested in the football player,” he said on 7 Gold.
“We are still in February and anything can still happen. I think that a real auction could be unleashed on the Nigerian in the coming months.
“The player’s valuation stands at €120m, but it could increase again if he continues to do so well. Chances are high he’ll go away.”
The €120million valuation equates to around £106million. However, given his quality and two big sides in for him it wouldn’t be a surprise if that was to rise.
Osimhen has bagged 18 Serie A goals in 19 games. Not only does that put him top of the highest goalscorers list, but it puts him five goals clear of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez in second.
It seems Napoli are understanding that there’s a good chance they could lose their star. Bargiggia named a four-man list of strikers they have reportedly compiled that could replace him.
“Napoli likes: Beto, [Jonathan] David, [Youssef] En-Nesyri and [Sébastien] Haller. The ‘new’ Osimhen could be one of these four. Giuntoli is also following [Rasmus] Højlund, but Atalanta has already made it known that they are not selling him,” he said.
As such, United could be in with a good chance if they can get past PSG in the pursuit of the forward. What an attack it would be if Osimhen was paired with Rashford.
