Champions League betting: Liverpool is favored to get its third trophy of 2022

Liverpool will go for a third major trophy on Saturday in the Champions League final.

The Reds lost their chance at a historic quadruple on Sunday when Manchester City scored three goals in six minutes to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and win the English Premier League. Liverpool beat Wolves 3-1 and would have won the league if Man City tied or lost to Aston Villa.

Liverpool won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier in the season. An EPL title would have given Liverpool the chance to win the Champions League for a fourth major trophy this season and become the first English team to win all four competitions in the same season.

Three trophies would still be very rare company. And Liverpool enters Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid (3 p.m. ET, CBS) as the BetMGM favorite to win in regulation at +110. Real Madrid is at +240 to win the game in regulation while a regulation tie is at +260.

Real Madrid got to the Champions League final thanks to epic comebacks against PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City in the previous three rounds. Real’s win over City prevented an all-EPL matchup in the final for the third time in the last four seasons. Chelsea beat Man City 1-0 to win the Champions League a season ago while Liverpool took down Tottenham 2-0 in 2019.

A Champions League title for Liverpool would be the team’s seventh and tie it with AC Milan for the second-most titles. Madrid has the most titles with 13 and a win would make its tally twice as many as Milan.

Star Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is the co-favorite to score the first goal at +350 and favorite for anytime goal at +120. He’s tied with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah for first goal and Salah is at +125 for anytime goal. You can get a Salah goal and Liverpool win at +200 while a Benzema goal and Real Madrid win is at +260.
