CDC approves those fully vaccinated to largely ditch masks indoors

KRISTIN MYERS: Welcome back. Well, it is official. The CDC has released guidance stating that vaccinated Americans can now be maskless indoors. We have our health reporter Anjalee Khemlani here with all of those details.
ANJALEE KHEMLANI: Thanks, Kristin. Yeah, so we heard from the CDC today, basically giving news that everyone was waiting for. And that is that if you are fully vaccinated, you can now largely resume what you had been doing prior to the pandemic, but specifically, what they actually did say in the statement, with the exception of wearing masks in places like nursing homes or hospitals or healthcare facilities, as well as transportation hubs like airports or bus stations or in prisons or jails or homeless shelters.
But this is really a stark difference from what we heard earlier, when the CDC did kind of still hedge on making sure that masked individuals were taking some of these mitigation practices seriously. Still-- sorry-- vaccinated individuals were still masking for things like larger indoor crowds. But that seems to be all pushed away today and with the idea that more and more Americans are getting vaccinated. And so, with that comes more freedoms.
Of course, that have sparked a lot of debate around the country in different states, different communities. People are wondering why masks are still relevant. We know from the reports of, for example, in some sports leagues, where they have that positive cases, even after vaccination. Those are breakthrough cases. So those are still possible. But the idea largely being that now, more and more individuals are safer in interacting in small and large places.
