The Catskills Resort Featured in Season 2 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" Is for Sale
Calling all fans of Amazon Prime Original The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and/or aspiring inn owners! While the season four premiere date is still under wraps, we’ve gotten word about a pretty impressive property for sale that you might recall. Remember the Steiner Resort where Midge and her family vacationed for the summer in season 2? Well, the Catskills property (which yes, is an actual resort!) is currently on the market for $6 million.
A few things to note: The Steiner Resort was the fictional name given to the property during the show — the charming waterfront property is actually called Scott’s Oquage Lake House Resort. It's located in Deposit, New York and operated for 150 years, opening in 1869. The resort was family-run for six generations and has a rich history, which of course includes welcoming the cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Scott’s Oquage Lake House Resort was also a potential filming location for Dirty Dancing, although that did not pan out.
The resort can accommodate up to 134 guests, is equipped with five garages, and plenty of room for some summertime shenanigans (the resort was only open from May to October each year). The 1,000 acre property also includes a private 135 acres of Oquage lake, a golf course, and ample area for recreation. If you've ever dreamed of starting your own inn on the water, a summer camp, or you're just looking for a quiet secluded retreat amongst the trees, this is a pretty stellar piece of land.
According to Scott’s Oquage Lake House Resort’s website, the resort started in the 1870s as a farmhouse that provided room and board for up to 50 guests for just $8.00 a week. Over the decades, the Scott family continued to expand its land and accommodations—next came a dining facility and The Casino (now called The Play House), which featured a soda fountain, a dance floor, and a bowling alley. Despite a horrific fire in 1921, the resort re-opened a year later and continued expanding. Presently, the resort features a two-level Guest House that can fit up to 40 guests; the Christie Inn and Windermere, which can accommodate up to 50 guests each; as well its lake cottages. Over the years, the resort had became a popular wedding venue. It also hosted a Showboat sing-along cruise as well as themed-weekends.
According to a post on the Scott’s Oquage Lake House Facebook page from January of this year, the owners announced that the resort had closed its doors for good. Former guests expressed sadness in the comments, many adding that staying at the resort had been a summer tradition for their family. While The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel put a spotlight on the the resort, it already had its own following. Hopefully the new owners will continue the Scott's legacy keep the resort up and running.
