Catcher Stresses Importance of 'Snake Proofing' Coops After Python Swallows Pet Chicken

A snake catcher in Queensland stressed the importance of making sure chicken coops are secure after a python ate a “pet chicken” at a home in Dulong.

Footage shared by Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 on April 16 shows catcher Stuart McKenzie removing the carpet python – which has a visibly full belly – from the chicken coop and releasing it back into a wooded area.

“This was a cool call to attend, sadly not so cool for the pet chicken which got swallowed whole,” McKenzie said on Facebook.

“This was a large python that had easily consumed a big chicken, hopefully people watching this video will go outside and check that their chicken coops are snake proof,” he wrote. Credit: Stuart McKenzie via Storyful
