It had a wild plot, big stars and made more than $400 million at the box office.

The Mummy was a major early summer hit when it premiered in May of 1999, helping to further catapault Brendan Fraser's star while introducing viewers to a host of other actors. It also spawned two sequels — 2001's The Mummy Returns and 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor — plus a strong following that remains loyal to this day.

“It is hard to make that movie,” Fraser told Variety in 2022, calling his series of films "fun" and a "thrill ride."

Here, 25 years after the first film's release, catch up with the stars of The Mummy, then and now.
