Cash Warren Said Marriage to Jessica Alba Was “Hard Work” Months Before Split
"But we roll up our sleeves and we do it."
Earlier this week, it was reported that Jessica Alba and Cash Warren had recently split. The news came as a shock to fans—after all, the couple met way back in 2004 on the set of Fantastic Four, before tying the knot in 2008. The couple share three children. Now, after 20 years together and 16 years of marriage, it seems they are calling it quits. And as it turns out, Warren had already dropped hints that their relationship was under some additional strain in recent months.
In an interview with Us Weekly in July 2024, the producer described their marriage as "hard work," adding, "but we roll up our sleeves and we do it."
As Warren explained, he and Alba worked hard to ensure they had a strong friendship and always supported each other. "Just knowing that your partner has your back means everything to us,” he said, later adding, “It’s wild. It’s the longest relationship I could have ever imagined."
Alba also recently opened up about some struggles in the marriage. Speaking to Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt on the BDA Baby podcast, she said, “If you’ve figured it out in your relationship, let me know. You know, I think that [Cash] probably gets the short end of the stick. …It’s hard. It’s impossible.”
She went on to talk about the importance of making an effort to "communicate when you’re unhappy and nipping it right away instead of letting it sort of, like, fester.”
She also described how the passion can die after a couple years of marriage. "It’s just, like, you’re roommates," she said. "You’re just going through the motions. It’s the responsibility. It’s a lot of, like, checking the boxes.”
Since then, it seems that the couple's long relationship has come to an end. As a source explained to People, they anticipate an amicable divorce as the pair are still "friends and all about the kids."
"No matter what's going on right now, it seems they will remain close," the source added. "If they're filing for divorce, it's not because of some hateful drama. They still look happy together." The source then hinted at a possible reason for the separation: "Jess has mentioned over the years though that it's hard to keep the spark."
The couple also took some time apart much earlier on in their relationship, splitting up for a brief period four years into their relationship. "When we first started dating I was really jealous of other guys and the attention she was getting from other guys," Warren explained on the Whine Down with Jana Kramer. "It just wasn’t making me feel good. I was always a pretty confident person in my own [life], walking my own path and really happy there, and next thing you know I’m looking up and feeling jealous all the time."
