Cars Queue Outside Costco in Sydney Amid Reports of Coronavirus Grocery Shortages

A queue of cars formed outside a Costco supermarket in Lidcombe, in Sydney’s western suburbs, amid reports that some stores had sold out of essential items following the coronavirus outbreak.

Shelves in some Australian supermarkets were reportedly stripped of supplies such as toilet paper and hand sanitiser as cases of COVID-19 increased on Monday, March 2.

In this video, uploaded to Twitter on the Monday, a line of cars can be seen near a Costco outlet. The queue was reportedly hundreds of vehicles long.

The country had 29 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of the same morning. One man, who contracted the virus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, was revealed on Sunday to have died from complications arising from the disease. Credit: Bunny Brethren via Storyful
