Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, have experienced different chapters in their relationship.

The American Idol winner and former NHL star, who met in 2008 and wed in 2010, had an instant connection. Underwood initially had reservations when a mutual friend brought up the idea of introducing her to Fisher, but after their first encounter, she couldn't deny their chemistry.

“I feel like he is the person I was meant to be with,” the singer told PEOPLE in June 2019. “I had dated guys and kind of knew, like, 'No.' Nothing was ever really wrong, but nothing was really right either. With him, it was like a good partnership. It was an easy relationship to be in.”

Today, Underwood and Fisher have been married for nearly 15 years, and share two children, sons Isaiah and Jacob, whom they welcomed in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

“I admire Carrie as a mom most,” Fisher told PEOPLE in the same interview. “She is so good with our boys and loves us all so well.”

Now retired, Fisher travels the world with Underwood as she continues to tour and sing at various events. On Jan. 20, he joined his wife at President Donald Trump's inauguration, where Underwood sang "America the Beautiful."

Fisher was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. His parents, Jim and Karen Fisher, brought him up alongside his three siblings.

In March 2019, Fisher became a United States citizen. He announced the news on his Instagram Stories, writing, "Big day I’m officially American," alongside a photo of himself holding an American flag.

He played in the NHL

Fisher announced his retirement from hockey in August 2017 after leading the Predators to the Stanley Cup finals and losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, his retirement was short-lived. He returned to the Predators in February 2018 with Underwood's blessing.

"Carrie asked me every few days if I was going to do it. She wanted me to do it. And she's usually right," Fisher told ESPN. "I believe this team is built to win and has a very good chance. So that's part of the reason I want to come back."

Despite their potential, the Predators didn't make it to the 2018 Stanley Cup finals, and Fisher permanently hung up his skates after 18 seasons in the NHL.

In July 2023, the hockey pro was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

“Congratulations, babe! So proud of you!!!” Underwood wrote on X. “I can think of no one more deserving!"

"I was like, 'We’re sticking him in a meet-and-greet because if he’s weird, I don’t want to deal with him,' " she recalled during an appearance on MTV’s Behind the Music podcast in April 2022.

To Underwood's surprise, they hit it off. The pair later wed on July 10, 2010, at the Ritz-Carlton resort on Lake Oconee in Georgia.

The couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in 2020, and the "Good Girl" vocalist marked the milestone by sharing a couple of "awkward" throwback photos of her and Fisher on Instagram.

"These past 10 years have been pretty incredible with you, @mfisher1212 ! Here’s to many many more. I love you and I thank the good Lord that He brought those two kids together!" Underwood captioned the post.

"Tiny hands and tiny feet...God has blessed us with an amazing gift! Welcome to the world, sweet angel," the Grammy Award-winning singer wrote on Instagram.

Underwood suffered multiple miscarriages before the couple welcomed their "little miracle," son Jacob Bryan Fisher, on Jan. 21, 2019.

"Our hearts are full, our eyes are tired and our lives are forever changed. Life is good..." she wrote on Instagram following his birth.

During an episode of their 2020 docuseries Mike and Carrie: God & Country, Fisher described being a dad as the "greatest thing ever." He also shared that his greatest hope for Isaiah and Jacob is that they have a "real relationship with Jesus."

In 2018, Underwood was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame with Fisher by her side.

"God has given you one of the best voices, crazy work ethic and [a] platform you’ve never taken for granted. You’ve remained humble in all the success and never craved the attention or fame one bit,” he wrote on Instagram in celebration of his wife. "Love you lots!"

Over the years, Fisher has also been Underwood's plus-one to major award shows, including the 2022 CMT Music Awards, where his wife won video of the year with Jason Aldean for “If I Didn’t Love You.”

They grew the apparel brand, which sells humorous hunting-themed merch, by creating funny videos for YouTube and social media.

In one of their most popular videos, Fisher performs "Before She Bleats" — a parody version of Underwood's 2006 tune "Before He Cheats."
