Carolina Panthers owner fined for throwing drink into crowd

David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, was fined $300,000 by the NFL after he appeared to throw a drink in the direction of Jaguars fans near the end of Carolina’s 26-0 loss Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.

A viral video shows Tepper in a box seat at EverBank Stadium, where the Jaguars play, and he appears to throw the contents of his drink into the stands below him before tossing the cup and walking away.

The NFL fined Tepper for “unacceptable” conduct, The Associated Press reported.

“All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL,” the statement said.

Tepper released a statement accepting the fine, the AP reported.

“I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the league’s discipline for my behavior,” the billionaire’s statement said.

His reaction, which was filmed and shared online, came after rookie quarterback Bryce Young threw an interception with less than three minutes to go in the game.

The Panthers have a 2-14 record in the 2023 season after Sunday’s loss.
