Carol Vorderman has opened up about embracing a "freer" way of dating in her 60s as she insists she's fulfilled as a single woman.

The TV star, 62, revealed that for the past decade she has been in a "new chapter" of enjoying "no-strings-attached" relationships.

She told The Sun On Sunday's Fabulous magazine: "I might have a boyfriend who only lasts a few months. I call them 'special friends'.

"I'm not going to tell you all the details, but one of my 'friendships' has gone on for 11 years. And I have one 'special friend' in America."

The mother-of-two added: "I have a very full, happy, exciting and adventurous life. And it makes me laugh every day. It's ridiculous and it's fantastic.

"I think many people are living that life but are too frightened to say. There are a lot of fresh divorcees coming into their 50s and the majority wouldn't want to get married again.

"They'd say: 'Maybe I'd like someone, maybe a few people. I didn't know I wanted to do this, but I want to explore this now.'"

Vorderman was previously married to management consultant Patrick King, with whom she shares daughter Katie, 30, and 25-year-old son Cameron.

Since their separation in 2000, Vorderman has embraced a "freer" way of dating which has seen her choose to remain single.

The former Countdown presenter – who insists that her marriage wasn't a "failure" – criticised the idea that women should always be looking for a husband.

She said: "We sell every little girl the message: 'Cinderella needs a prince to save her.' Yet half of marriages end in divorce.

"I get frustrated when women are told to find a man. It's b*****ks, because the goal is not to be in love, the goal is to be happy."
