  • For ELLE's September 2020 cover story, Cardi B shared that she wishes male rappers would speak out more often about the death of Breonna Taylor.

  • "A woman like Breonna Taylor, she was young. She looked like she was listening to your music. She looked like she was your fan. You should stick up for her," she said.

  • Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency medical technician, was killed in her home by police in March after officers stormed her apartment on a no-knock warrant.

Whether you love her or hate her, Cardi B has never been one to hide how she's really feeling. Now, she's calling on male rappers in the music industry to use their voices too.

For ELLE's September 2020 cover story, the rapper said that she wants male rappers to do more in the fight to get Breonna Taylor's killers arrested. "A woman like Breonna Taylor, she was young. She looked like she was listening to your music. She looked like she was your fan," she said. "You should stick up for her."

"What they did to her is really fucked up. Really fucked up," Cardi also told Elle. "What's the excuse? Why is the cop not in jail? Wasn't what he did a crime? It's a crime! And no apology. No apology. No video of the cop coming out crying, 'I fucked up. I don't this. I don't that.' Nothing. It's nothing. I don't even know how her mom still holds her head up. Unbelievable."

Further, Cardi expressed outrage toward the cops' treatment of Tamika Palmer, Taylor's mother, who rushed to her daughter's apartment the night of the shooting, only to have the cops redirect her to the hospital even though Taylor's body was still inside her home.

"Imagine how frustrated her mom was, crying, probably hysterical," Cardi said. "The cops call her saying her daughter is in the hospital, and her daughter is not even there. Then the person who's supposed to protect her is asking her mom, 'Do you know anybody who [would] want to hurt Breonna Taylor?' when you guys know who killed her!"
