Canadian rock band Sum 41 to disband after final album release and world tour

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — After 27 years, famous Canadian pop punk band Sum 41 will be going their separate ways.

The announcement was made less than 24-hours ago via the band’s Instagram page where they shared a ‘goodbye’ note with a few announcements.

Although reasons for the disbandment were not specified, the band assured fans that they will still finish their current upcoming tour dates this year while also revealing their newest and final album drop along with a final worldwide tour.

“Being Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way.

“Sum 41 will be disbanding. We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate.

“For now, we look forward to seeing all of you ‘skumfuks’ on the road and excited for what the future will bring for each of us. Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41,” the band wrote in the post.

The announcement which has garnered over 125,000 likes on Instagram, was also shared across the band’s other social media pages.

The post has garnered over 9,000 comments from disheartened fans sharing their special memories of the band and its music.

The group, fronted by singer Deryck Whibley was part of the same early 2000’s pop-punk wave that includes bands such as Blink-182, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.

Known for hits such as In Too Deep, Fatlip and Pieces, Sum 41 made their breakthrough via their 2001 debut album All Killers, No Fillers which landed them an invite on MTV’s 20th anniversary show.

The band’s music was also featured in famous early 2000 films such as Spiderman and Dude, Where’s My Car?

Currently the band is helmed by five members who are Dave Baksh, Jason ‘Cone’ McCaslin, Tom Thacker, Frank Zummo with only one remaining original member, Whibley.
