California National Guard Fights Growing Dixie Fire in 'Mop Up Operation'

The Dixie Fire burning in Northern California surpassed 1,000 square miles in size by August 19, fire officials said.

Footage released by DVIDS shows a hand crew from the California National Guard’s Joint Task Force 578 conducting “mop up operations” in Lassen County on Wednesday.

As of August 19, the fire was measured at 678,369 acres (approximately 1,060 square miles) and was 35 percent contained, officials said. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
