Burnt-out makeshift migrant boat found abandoned on Delray Beach in Florida

A burnt-out migrant boat was found near Delray Beach in Florida on the morning of Saturday 3 September. It was a quarter of a mile south of the public beach in Delray Beach. The rudimentary boat, constructed of wire, styrofoam blocks and a simple engine attached to a propeller, had signs of a fire on board. There was no sign of what happened to the passengers or whether they had survived their perilous journey. Many boats from Cuba, the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands carrying dozens or even hundreds of passengers have tried to land in South Florida and the Keys this summer. US Border Patrol has intercepted many of the vessels and apprehended passengers on others after they land, but some arrive unnoticed.
