Bullets Fly on Youth Baseball Field in San Diego County

An investigation continued in California’s San Diego County on Wednesday, May 10, after gunshots were fired during a children’s baseball game on Monday – with a bullet striking the ground within several feet of a child – authorities said.

Surveillance footage posted to Twitter by the San Diego County Sheriff captured audio of what sounded like gunfire and the moment a bullet hit the ground at Mission Sports Park during a San Marcos Youth baseball league game shortly before 8 pm Monday, police said. A bullet was found in the dugout, local media said.

The incident prompted a lockdown at nearby Palomar College, and the baseball league canceled all activities on Tuesday, local media reported.

Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene but didn’t find anyone who had been shot or was hurt, according to a police statement.

Police appealed to anyone with further information or who witnessed the shooting to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station. Credit: San Diego Sheriff via Storyful
