Buildings were veiled by smog in Beijing, China, as officials issued a yellow alert for air pollution on November 4, leading to the suspension of some schools and outdoor activities.

China Daily said long-lasting “medium to severe” air pollution was forecast to remain until Saturday.

The US Embassy in China said the PM2.5 level reached the “very unhealthy” reading of 228 micrograms per cubic metres on Friday

According to local news reports, visibility of less than 200 meters caused highway closures.
