Buildings in Ruin After Cyclone Yaas Pounds Parts of West Bengal

Financial aid for the eastern states of Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal was sanctioned by the Indian government on May 28 as recovery efforts continued in aftermath of Cyclone Yaas.

The cyclone, which made landfall on May 26 claimed four lives, according to India Today.

Some of the devastation wrought by the storm can be seen in footage taken by Sanjay Kamila in Sankarpur, a coastal area in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal.

Kamila, who said he captured the video on May 28, told Storyful that “many people took shelter in schools, high rise buildings, and safety houses” during the cyclone, and said some people “didn’t have food for two days.” Credit: Sanjay Kamila via Storyful
