Budget 2023: RM10m for Quran translation in Swedish, other foreign languages for distribution worldwide
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — Along with distributing one million copies of the Quran, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said RM10 million will be used to publish and distribute 20,000 translations of the Holy Book in Swedish and other major foreign languages.
“On January 27, I announced that we will print a million copies of the Quran as a symbol of wisdom and maturity to respond to prejudicial and uncivilised attacks on Islam, including the burning of the Holy Book in Sweden recently.
“For this purpose, RM10 million will be donated to the Restu Foundation for the immediate distribution of 20,000 copies of a translation of the Quran in Swedish as well as the world’s major foreign languages,” he said while tabling Budget 2023 in Parliament today.
In January, Anwar said Malaysia condemned in the strongest terms the act of extremist right-wing Swedish-Danish politician, Rasmus Paludan, and added that the move by Yayasan Restu to distribute copies of the Quran globally would be the most apt response.
Yayasan Restu is well-known for producing Quran manuscripts and Quran-related publications with exclusive designs.
Anwar said other Muslim nations will also be consulted in the effort to distribute copies of the Quran globally.
Rasmus Paludan, leader of Danish far-right party Stram Kurs (Hard Line), was permitted to burn the Quran on January 21 outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, angering Muslims worldwide.
