Buck Moon Seen Rising Over North Macedonia Hillside

July’s full moon, the Buck Moon, was seen rising magnificently in the night sky over Ohrid, North Macedonia, according to a local photographer on July 13.

Stojan Stojanovski posted this video showing the moon looking larger than usual as it climbed into the night sky.

This year’s Buck Moon qualifies as a “supermoon”, NASA said, since “the peak of this full moon is less than 10 hours after the moon was closest to the Earth in its orbit”.

Native American names for full moons have been used widely since the Maine Farmer’s Almanac began publishing them in the 1930s. The Buck Moon coincided with the time of year new antlers appear on buck deer. Credit: Stojan Stojanovski via Storyful
