Bryan Brothers Pay Tribute to Kobe Bryant in Their Final Australian Open Match

American professional tennis players Bob and Mike Bryan played their final match at Melbourne Park, in Melbourne, Australia, on January 27 with Kobe Bryant’s jersey number, 24, and nickname, Mamba, written on tape on the backs of their legs.

The 41-year-old twins paid tribute to Bryant on Monday after the legendary NBA player, also 41, died along with eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, in a helicopter crash in California.

The Bryan brothers, who are Lakers fans, played what they said would be their final Australian Open match on Monday, hours after the news of Bryant’s death broke. This footage filmed by Nick Leavenworth shows the twins giving their reaction to the news, saying Bryant was a “great guy” on and off the court who was always “nice and humble.”

The Bryan brothers lost their final Australian Open match on Monday 6-3, 6-4 to fourth seeds Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek in the third round, reports said. They plan to retire after the US Open, which is scheduled for August 31 to September 13. Credit: Nick Leavenworth via Storyful
