Residents of the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, took to the streets in the early hours of June 17 to fire off salvos of fireworks, video taken from the entrance to a local building shows.
Fireworks, often purchased in other states, are a fixture of many New York neighborhoods over the summertime. But complaints to the city’s 311 civic assistance hotline are up almost 4,000 percent during June 1- 14, compared to the same period in 2019, Gothamist reported.
This video was recorded by Nina Rodriguez, who said she went outside after hearing barrages of explosions from her apartment. She said she emerged from her building to find the entire street taken over by fireworks. “I had no problems with all this,” Rodriguez later commented. “I ended up having so much fun.” Credit: Nina Rodriguez via Storyful
