Brooke Shields Reveals the 'Perfect' Wedding Gift She Gave Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Shields recalled that Holmes asked her to get "something old" as a gift for her wedding to Cruise, which sent the actress shopping at "antique places"
Brooke Shields says knew the perfect gift to get Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes for their 2006 nuptials.
The Mother of the Bride star, 58, shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she couldn’t turn down going to the former couple’s invitation to their elaborate wedding in Italy.
"Of course I was gonna say yes to that," Shields told EW. "I was like, 'Yes. I will [come] — as long as I'm not the something old!'"
She shared that her little quip prompted the Dawson’s Creek actress, 45, to request some help in that department to keep in line with the popular wedding tradition.

"[Holmes] goes, 'Oh, will you?' And I said, 'What? Bring myself as the something old?,' ” Shields recalled. “And she goes, ‘No, will you get the something old?’ ”
The Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields star said she had no other choice but to help out the bride. "I had to, like, hunt antique places to find the perfect, you know, gift to give her,” she said.
“Do we get to know what it was?,” Shield’s Mother of the Bride costar Benjamin Bratt then asked.

"It was a little compact that you put a ring. It was Victorian, and it was really beautiful," the actress described the gift. "And so [they’re] supposed to be able to look at their reflection in it and have it around their finger."
She added that the gift was “really beautiful."
Despite the couple appearing to have kept in line with wedding superstitions, they eventually split in June 2012.
Shields has had her own bumpy friendship with the Top Gun star, 61, after he criticized her antidepressant use on the Today show in 2006. The pair eventually mended things, with the actress noting that he had gone over to her house and offered “a heartfelt apology.”
In 2023, during an interview with PEOPLE, she also revealed that she used to receive coconut Christmas cakes from Cruise — who is known to send the sweet treat to his famous friends during the holidays — though she eventually fell off his list.
"I was on the list for a while. I had a good 10-year run, and I got the coconut cake every year, which I was very happy [about]," she said. “... And then the cake stopped." She added that she hoped to get back on the recipient list eventually.
