Britney Spears' father files petition to end conservatorship

Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears filed to end star’s conservatorship after 13 years. This comes after he agreed to step down in August but with no immediate timeline to do so. In new legal documents the father wrote that Britney is “entitled” to have the court “seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required". The pop star has sought to remove her father from the role twice in the last two years and described the arrangement as “abusive”. The conservatorship was first imposed in 2008 following her public mental health struggles. Since then, Mr Spears has been legally in charge over many aspects of her life including Britney’s finances, health, personal life and business affairs. Her father stepped down as his daughter’s personal conservator in 2019 due to health issues but still oversaw her business arrangements. The next hearing is set to take place at Los Angeles Superior Court on September 29th.
