British chalk figure vandalized with face mask

British police are searching for the vandal or vandals who painted a COVID-19 face mask on the figure of a mysterious giant in England.

The Long Man of Wilmington is a 235-foot high chalk outline of a figure holding a white stick in each hand, carved into a hillside.

It is protected by law as an ancient monument, though it has been targeted in the past.

The figure’s exact origins are disputed but many archaeologists date it to the Anglo-Saxon or medieval periods.

As of Saturday (January 30), the mask had been removed and police called the incident “unacceptable”
