BritBox Reveals Summer Slate, Acquires Idris Elba’s ‘Luther,’ Sean Bean’s ‘Time’

BritBox, the joint BBC Studios/ITV streaming service, has unveiled its summer slate, which includes the acquisition of some of the U.K.’s top dramas as well as original fare.

Among the offerings are “Luther,” which kicks off the streamer’s “Mystery Month” in July and stars Idris Elba (“Thor”), and “Time,” the new drama featuring Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones”) as a middle class man who finds himself navigating life in prison.

The streamer has also unveiled a new original documentary series, “In the Footsteps of Killers,” which follows Emilia Fox (“Silent Witness”) and criminologist Professor David Wilson as they explore some of Britain’s most horrific murders.

BritBox already streams a number of iconic British series including “Downton Abbey,” “The Fall” and “Agatha Christie’s Marple.”

Intruder: An affluent couple try to cover up a murder. With Elaine Cassidy (“The Paradise”) and Tom Meeten (“The Ghoul”).

Inside No. 9, S6: A dark comedy exploring the comings and goings at Number 9. With Gemma Whelan (“Game of Thrones”), Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”), and Adrian Dunbar (“Line of Duty”).

July

Luther S1-4: The detective drama series featuring Idris Elba (“The Wire”) as a maverick cop.

In the Footsteps of Killers: “Silent Witness” actor Emilia Fox and criminologist Professor David Wilson team up to solve some of Britain’s darkest crimes.

Murder on the Blackpool Express: A murder mystery comes to life for crime author David Van Der Clane, played by Griff Rhys Jones (“Not the 9 O’ Clock News”).

Death on the Tyne: An overnight ferry trip turns into a multiple crime scene. With Johnny Vegas (“The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff”) and Sian Gibson (“Death in Paradise”).

Dial M for Middlesbrough: Vegas and Gibson return in another murder mystery, this time when their coach breaks down in the middle of a storm.

Bergerac S1-3: The crime drama following a maverick detective sergeant played by John Nettles (“Midsomer Murders”).

August

McDonald & Dodds S2: A mismatched detective duo sets out to solve some crimes. With Jason Watkins (“The Crown”) and Tala Gouveia (“Cold Feet”).

Moone Boy: An 11-year-old boy goes on adventures with his imaginary friend, played by Chris O’Dowd (“Bridesmaids”).

Time: A former teacher finds himself navigating life in prison after a car accident. With Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones”) and Stephen Graham (“Line of Duty”).

Agatha Christie’s Marple S6: Agatha Christie’s sleuthing senior citizen returns to solve some more mysteries.
