Meggy Fernandes voted for Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil's 2018 presidential election, attracted by the far-right former army captain's promise to shake up a hidebound political establishment mired in endless graft scandals. But after watching him jettison his anti-corruption pledges, strike pacts with the politicians he vowed to shun, and, most importantly, botch Brazil's coronavirus response, Fernandes, 66, now says she was wrong to place her faith in Bolsonaro. "I'm so revolted by my vote," she said in a supermarket carpark in Rio de Janeiro, at an unusual pro-impeachment rally convened by right-wing groups.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Antonio Conte wasn't happy at the end of Inter Milan's 0-0 draw at Udinese on Saturday. His side struggled to break down a team they were expected to beat, but in doing so they also squandered the chance to go top of the standings and be crowned winter champions after AC Milan were thrashed 3-0 by Atalanta. Conte's frustration told when he was sent off for dissent near the end, and Sky Sport reported that he was later heard shouting at referee Fabio Maresca: "It's always you, even at the VAR, always you."
Even with President Joe Biden now in office, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the 2020 election, saying without evidence in an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” that voter fraud had been committed. “Were there people who voted twice?” Paul asked host George Stephanopoulos. “Were there dead people who voted? Were there illegal aliens who voted? Yes, and we should get to the bottom of it.” Stephanopoulos responded by saying that while instances of voter fraud have been found in every election, it has never been widespread enough to change the outcome of an election. “There were 86 challenges filed by President Trump and his allies in court. All were dismissed,” Stephanopoulos said. “All were dismissed. […] Can’t you just say the words: This election was not stolen?” Pressed repeatedly by @GStephanopoulos, Sen. Rand Paul won’t say the 2020 election wasn’t stolen, calls for investigation of fraud, but doesn’t provide evidence. GS: “There are not two sides to this story. This has been looked at in every single state.” https://t.co/P6iz1jjwYE pic.twitter.com/GeWSYe0Bs0 — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) January 24, 2021 When Paul sidestepped the question and argued that 75% of Republicans in a recent poll believe Congress should “look at election integrity,” Stephanopoulos pointed out that 75% of Republicans agree with you because they were fed a big lie by President Trump and his supporters who say the election was stolen.” Paul turned it around, accusing the host of calling Republicans liars. “You’re forgetting who you are as a journalist if you think there’s only one side,” Paul said. “I’m standing by facts,” Stephanopoulos responded. “There are not two sides to facts. I did not say this was a perfect election. I said the results were certified. I said it was not stolen. It is a lie to say it was stolen.” Despite repeated statements from the U.S. Justice Dept. and state election officials that there is no evidence of widespread fraud, Trump and most Republican lawmakers have continued to baselessly assert that the election had been rigged against him during the final weeks of his presidency. Trump’s claims have led to new articles of impeachment being filed against him after his supporters, incited by his rhetoric, stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as the election results were being certified. Five people died in the wake. Following Paul’s interview, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told Stephanopoulos that any Republicans that have boosted Trump’s claims should be condemned. “This election was not stolen,” Christie said. “There were no type of irregularities that would have changed the result in any one state. Folks in my party who are doing that, quite frankly, are just trying to make political points with those people who the president and others lied to about this over the course of the 10 weeks after the election, and it’s shameful that they’re doing it.” Read original story Rand Paul Refuses to Accept Legitmacy of 2020 Election or Joe Biden as President At TheWrap
A pipe-laying vessel has started work in Danish waters ahead of the resumption of construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the consortium behind the project said on Sunday, amid pressure from the United States and European Union to halt it. The project, designed to boost Russian gas supplies to Europe and bypass Ukraine, has met resistance from Washington, which wants to sell its own sea-borne liquefied natural gas to the European Union and cut the region's reliance on energy supplies from Moscow. European Union lawmakers passed a resolution on Thursday calling for the bloc to stop the completion of the Nord Stream 2 in response to the arrest of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.

Biden on Monday is also reimposing an entry ban on nearly all non-U.S. travelers who have been in Brazil, the United Kingdom, Ireland and 26 countries in Europe that allow travel across open borders. "We are adding South Africa to the restricted list because of the concerning variant present that has already spread beyond South Africa," said Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC's principal deputy director, in an interview Sunday.

France probably needs to move into a third lockdown, perhaps as early as the February school holidays, because of the circulation of new variants of the virus, the government's top medical advisor on COVID-19 policy said on Sunday. French school children have two weeks off in February, but the entire month is a holiday month as three different zones stagger the start of their holidays by one week, with the first starting on Feb. 6. The government will meet on Wednesday to decide whether it needs to take extra measures.
Dutch police used water cannon, dogs and mounted police to disperse a protest in central Amsterdam on Sunday against coronavirus lockdown restrictions and detained more than 100 people for throwing stones and fireworks. The demonstration in the city's Museum Square, which violated a ban on public gatherings, came the day after the government introduced a nightly curfew for the first time since World War II. Fearing a riot or a disease-spreading event, Mayor Femke Halsema had designated the square as a "high-risk zone" and gave police the power to pre-emptively frisk people for weapons.

The coming second impeachment trial of former U.S. President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting the deadly storming of the Capitol has aggravated a rift among his fellow Republicans that was on full display on Sunday. At least one Republican, Senator Mitt Romney, said he believed the trial, which could lead to a vote banning Trump from future office, was a necessary response to the former president's inflammatory call to his supporters to "fight" his election defeat before the Jan. 6 attack. Ten Republicans joined the House of Representatives in voting to impeach Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection, and the House is to present the charges to the Senate on Monday.
