‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 First Teaser: Watch Anthony and Kate’s Intense Meet-Cute (Video)

Listen up, ton: Netflix has finally released a first look at the long-awaited second season of Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton,” which focuses on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his love interest, Kate Sharma (“Sex Education” alum Simone Ashley).

As every “Bridgerton” fan knows — whether they liked it at first or not — the show’s focus is shifting from Anthony’s sister Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and her husband Simon (Regé-Jean Page) to the new leading couple for Season 2.

“Bridgerton” Season 2 will also change considerably from the first season, which debuted in December 2019, as this installment will give viewers a look at the operation of high-society gossip columnist Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews), whom was revealed to actually be Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) at the end of the first season.

Watch the teaser for Season 2 of “Bridgerton,” which was released during Netflix’s Tudum fan event Saturday, here and via the video above to fall in love (all over again) with the romance series. As you can see in the clip, Kate and Anthony’s relationship is already very intense from the moment of their meet-cute.

Though Page has exited the series and will not appear at all in Season 2, “Bridgerton” Season 1 star Dynevor will reprise her role as Daphne and remain part of the ensemble cast, while her husband and their new baby will not be seen on screen. (Of course, the door is still open for Page to return in future seasons.)

Not long after Page’s departure was announced — which came just before production began on the second season in the spring— Netflix revealed it had gone ahead and renewed “Bridgerton” for Seasons 3 and 4, too. And just as each of Julia Quinn’s “Bridgerton” novels shifted to focus on the love life of a different Bridgerton sibling, those seasons will center on two more of Daphne’s brothers: Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) for Season 3 (based on the book “An Offer From a Gentleman”) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) for Season 4 (based on “Romancing Mister Bridgerton”).

That means if “Bridgerton” gets an eight-season run, the likely scenario is the show would move on to cover the love lives of the four youngest Bridgerton siblings, in order — Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Ruby Stokes), Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) — just as Quinn’s books do.
