A bride-to-be is seeking input online after she revealed that she and her fiancé decided to have their wedding at a vineyard in Italy — something her sister has always dreamed of doing on her own big day.

The bride shared a post on Reddit’s popular AITA forum revealing she and her fiancé, Nick, had been considering three locations for their wedding: New York City, London and Tuscany, where her groom-to-be is from.

She said they ultimately chose Tuscany, because they found it the “most beautiful," plus his family has a “huge vineyard” to host guests. She also noted that they would save enough money on the venue and accommodations to pay for people coming in from the United States.

However, she went on to add that her sister is “furious,” because her ideal wedding location “has always been an Italian vineyard.” She said her sister has long envisioned her wedding, saving “hundreds of pics in her camera roll” and even following "a bunch of wedding bakery [Instagram] pages.”

“She called me selfish for doing this to her, since I’ve never cared nearly as much about weddings but now I’m stealing her dream location,” she explained.

She further shared that her parents had agreed that they should have the wedding somewhere else, because they were worried about having to pay for two destination weddings with her and her sister. However, they acquiesced after she told them that she and her fiancé would cover all costs, but her sister would “not come around.”

“After talking with my mom today she suggested that we just have it in England to ‘keep the peace,’ since this means so much to my sister while I’ve never cared much for weddings,” the bride wrote.

“I’m not sure what to do now,” she continued. “Nick strongly prefers Italy, but he isn’t adamantly against London. His parents very much want to host the wedding.”

She added in a comment under the post that her sister is in a “long term relationship” and will be “engaged this Spring.” Meanwhile, she and her fiancé are aiming for an October wedding and the “weddings won't be too close together.”

Several people on Reddit sided with the bride-to-be in the comments and told her that she wasn’t being difficult. One person wrote, “Your sister is out of line, as are your parents. They expect you to dump a free location that had meaning to your fiancé because of a temper tantrum? No.”

Another person commented, “Your sister isn't even engaged yet much less actively planning a wedding. She doesn't get to call dibs on Italian Vineyards just because she made a Pinterest board.”

Another person noted that the two weddings could be very different despite both taking place in a vineyard.

“You aren't the first or last person to have a wedding in a vineyard,” they wrote. “Every vineyard is different, your sister will be able to choose a totally different vineyard for hers, with different colors and themes. Do what you like best.”
