Bride 'Livid' After Groom Asks Wedding Band to Leave Mid-Reception When He Discovers the Singer Is His Ex
The man, who shared the story on Reddit, revealed that he made the decision without his wife's approval
A newlywed "upset" his wife when he decided to send a group of wedding performers home in the middle of their reception — after he realized the band's singer was his ex-girlfriend from 15 years ago.
A Reddit user shared his wedding story on the site's popular "Am I the A------ (AITA)" forum, where he asked if he was in the wrong for making the wedding band his wife hired leave in the middle of their gig.
The anonymous groom revealed in his post that he got married the day before and that it was "not until we were called up for our first dance" that he realized the band's vocalist was his high school ex-girlfriend.
His wife was ultimately "the one in charge [of] the music for the day," he explained, noting that she didn't "know much about my exes." Still, he said he "couldn't help but only focus on the fact" that his ex was performing during their first dance.
"She never told me what she booked, nor did I ever ask about what it is," the groom wrote of their wedding-planning process. "I asked her what made her choose that band. She said she went through an entertainment agency, saw the ex’s portfolio which was good and within budget and booked."

During the reception, the groom broke the news to his wife that he had a previous relationship with the wedding singer and said he was "not comfortable" with her being present.
"She said that's an odd coincidence and told me, 'Why is this an issue, it happened long ago,' " he wrote. "I told her yes but I’m weirded out by it. My wife then said it's just music and not to make that much of a big deal since the band is doing a good job. I told her I want to talk with the band."
Despite his wife's request, the groom wrote that he spoke with his high school girlfriend — who was "very professional about it" and was unaware that it was his wedding when she agreed to perform — before asking her to "finish up in the next 30 minutes and to leave." The groom added that she and the band appeared "shocked," but he agreed not to pursue a refund since it was a day-of decision on his part.
He then wrote that his wife was "livid" about the situation and "kept asking me why it's such a big deal because of an ex" — and if he "still had feelings for [the ex]."
"I said no that's absurd, but I felt uncomfortable that I was reminded of my past relationship at the worst possible time," the groom wrote. "She told me I am wasting her money. I told her we could get another DJ that we can get on the spot with the help of the venue in which I will fully pay for. She told me that's just another waste of money because 'my feelings are too fragile and that I can't see the bigger picture.' "
"After the band left, I went straight to the venue manager to sort things out… long story short [everything] got sorted… DJ did a good job, the guests seemed to have a good time and didn’t notice [the music change] but my wife was NOT enjoying it at all," the groom concluded his post. "After everything was over, she went straight to bed at the hotel."

In the comments, the general consensus was that the groom was indeed in the wrong, with some Reddit users writing that he ruined his "own wedding over nothing" and "unilaterally decided that your brand new wife should just deal with a lesser musical option because you couldn't handle a non-issue."
"I wouldn’t marry someone as fragile as you. You ruined your wife’s wedding day," the most-upvoted comment read. "You were pretty selfish only thinking of yourself. Trust me, you will hear about this for years (and you should)."
"It's been 15 years," another user wrote. "You unilaterally made a decision without consulting YOUR PARTNER. AT YOUR WEDDING, which it sounds like you weren't that involved with planning. Start groveling now."
