Bride Asks 5 Friends to Be Maids of Honor — and Gives Each a Unique Title: ‘They Loved Me First’
“Now that I'm engaged to this amazing guy, I keep thinking, I had an amazing love story with my friends already, and they showed me how to love," the bride said
One Massachusetts bride is going above and beyond when it comes to her bridal party!
Anna Vatuone, 29, shared in a now viral TikTok video that she didn’t just choose one maid of honor, but five, who each embody a special trait she hopes to bring into her upcoming fall nuptials.
“On the first day of fall, I am getting married. When it came time to decide who my maid of honor was going to be, it seemed like an impossible question. I decided to do something different,” the bride narrated the video, before saying that she “asked each of them to hold a unique title.”
“Rachel, I asked to be my maid of loving kindness. Becky would be my maid of joy. Kirsten, maid of passion. Crystal, maid of courage and Erin, maid of generosity,” she continued, while showing videos of the women.
“Each word represents a quality I admire in them and want to bring with me in my marriage,” she shared, adding, “On the eve of my wedding they will share what the word means to them and how they believe I can best embody it.”
The video posted in June received over 500k views, over 100k likes and over 1,000 comments from people who praised her for her ingenuity for coming up with the idea.

Vatuone told Good Morning America that she came up with the idea because she wanted to honor her friends, who have stood by her for several years before she finally found her husband-to-be.
"One of the things that I said in the video was like, ‘They loved me first,’” she told GMA. “And I think about it all the time.”
“Because I think for so long, I really craved finding a romantic love and wanted to find a great partner and was looking for that,” she explained. “Now that I'm engaged to this amazing guy, I keep thinking, I had an amazing love story with my friends already, and they showed me how to love. They showed me how to be in partnership."
The bride said that she wrote a letter to each of her friends, telling them “this is the quality I see with you” before asking them to be her maid of honor. She said several of her friends were moved to tears when she brought the idea to them.
"I really liked the idea of showing people that actually, there are different ways that we can do this and how can we give back," Vatuone said. “How can we give back to the people in our lives who have helped us get to where we are today?"
She noted that she and her husband wanted to honor their loved ones in a special way on their wedding day, and wanted to show them that they would always hold a special place in their hearts.
"In a sense, yes, I'm getting married but it's a chance to celebrate a community, our community together – his friends, and my friends – have all helped us get to this place that we are today," Vatuone added.
