Buying yourself a little something new always feels like a treat, but when that purchase also funds charities working to combat the most common cancer in the UK, well that really gets the feel good vibes flowing.

Every October, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, brands including Stella McCartney and Estée Lauder, donate a percentage of profits from the sale of particular items to breast cancer charities.

Around 150 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. Thanks to the work of researchers and doctors, most will have a good chance of recovery if it's detected at an early stage.

Which is why it is vital people check their breasts regularly and anyone who notices changes in their chest should speak to their GP (men too, as around 370 are diagnosed with breast cancer every year). Those aged 50-70 should also attend screenings when they're invited.

However, 50% of women do not regularly check their breasts for signs of cancer, according to a survey of 2,000 women commissioned by The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland.

Restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus also meant some screening services paused, and since they've resumed uptakes has been slower, Breast Cancer Now estimates that around 1,480,000 fewer women in the UK had breast screening between March 2020 and May 2021, compared to pre-pandemic levels.

In order to raise awareness of the importance of checking for signs of breast cancer and to raise funds for research and support services, brands big and small have launched awareness campaigns this year.

To support Breast Cancer Awareness Month we've rounded up 12 products you can buy that will either see 100% of profits being donated to breast cancer charities or, in the case of the Stella McCartney tee, will mean a beautiful post-mastectomy bra is sent free of charge to a woman with breast cancer.
